Sterling rose in American trade to September 27 highs against the greenback, in a day that lacks major data releases from both Britain and the US.
As of 05:18 GMT, GBP/USD rose 0.28% to 1.3127, with an intraday low at 1.3033, and a two-week high at 1.3149.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May's spokesperson sad in earlier remarks that a Brexit deal will depend on the details of the future relations with the EU and proposals on Irish borders, which will be submitted "in the appropriate time", adding that government ministers are still backing May in her negotiating efforts.
