Sterling slumped in American trade away from September 21 highs against the dollar for the fourth session out of seven as investors follow the latest developments with Brexit, and in a day that lacks data releases from Britain and the US.

As of 04:48 GMT, GBP/USD fell 0.75% to 1.2978, with an intraday high at 1.3090, and the lowest since October 4 at 1.2957.

the UK government's spokesman said earlier that an extension to the transition period for the Brexit process is just a concept now, while Britain still aims to end negotiations in the current fall.
